Dart Content Solutions

My name is Deborah Tayloe. Writing for the mental health and addiction recovery space is not just my job; it is a passion. This work is more than a way to make a living; it’s a calling that comes from my lived experiences and a deep desire to make a difference.

I began my professional life teaching in the public school system. But it wasn’t long before I felt I must do something more impactful. I left the public schools to work at Sarah Reed, a residential school in my hometown, Erie, PA.

At Sarah Reed, I had the distinct honor of working with children who were dealing with severe trauma. Many of those youngsters were court referrals. My role was to help them heal and find some light in often very dark times. This experience didn’t just shape my understanding of mental health. Instead, it has started to shape my future.

Later, I took on the role of Therapeutic Staff Support, where I worked directly in the homes of at-risk children. I helped struggling families rebuild relationships and find a way forward. The work was (to say the least!) challenging at times. But it was also gratifying. The fulfillment I gained from helping these families was beyond measure.

My career later took a twist into the corporate world, where I worked on a sales team for two Fortune 500 companies. I quickly had to learn about how people make purchasing decisions. Sales taught me to engage with them in meaningful ways.

These skills became invaluable when I moved to a rural community with few jobs except at the local chicken slaughterhouse. Born of necessity, I discovered I had a rare opportunity for a career reset. I could combine my writing skills and all that I’d learned doing sales into a new job. I started writing copy for digital marketing agencies.

With over seven years of writing across different science fields—psychology, exercise and nutrition, behavioral health, horticulture, and technology—I decided to return my focus to where it all began.
